The Libyan Mufti Al-Sadiq Al-Gharyani has welcomed the MoUs in security and maritime cooperation with Turkey, calling for taking opportunity of it to defend legitimacy and thwart the aggression on Tripoli and its residents.
Speaking on Tanasuh TV on Wednesday, the Mufti said "we have the right to be an ally to neighboring Turkey as a friendly alliance to support right over wrong".
He added that the agreement with Turkey is a precious chance and a legal opportunity for Libyans, saying it is lawful because it was signed by the legitimate government that is recognized by the international community.
"We shouldn't pay attention to the statements of those who reject the agreement as they will regret them if Khalifa Haftar seized Libya under his control. Their fears of a Turkish base in Libya are meaningless as it wouldn't harm Libya to have such a base as long as it will help support the country's stability." The Mufti added.
Meanwhile, Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said earlier this week that his country would send troops to support the Libyan internationally recognized government of it so requested.
Erdogan said Turkey won't wait for permission from any international entity if Libya's legitimate government requested support as per the military accord signed between the two countries in training and arming, adding that Haftar is receiving illegal support from UAE and other countries.
On November 27, Erdogan and Fayez Al-Sarraj signed two MoUs in security and maritime cooperation.
