The Presidential Council and the Prime Minister of the new executive authority in Libya called for a transparent investigation into the exchange of fire between Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha's motorcade and personnel from the Stability Support Apparatus of the Government of National Accord (GNA).
The incident took place in Janzour, Tripoli, on Sunday. Bashagha claimed in a statement he was targeted personally in an assassination attempt, but the Stability Support Apparatus reiterated that it was a lack of communication and coordination as its personnel's vehicle passed through the convoy of Bashagha whose guards opened fire to heat up the situation.
The new executive authority extended in a statement its regards to Bashagha for his safety and that of his security guards after the incident and offered condolences to the families of the casualties.
The statement also denounced the incident and called on judicial and police apparatuses to open an investigation and bring the ones behind it to justice.
"There should be no place for such crimes in Libya after the election in the new executive authority. We should hinder all foul acts that aim to get in the way of the stability and security in Libya. All parties should work together at this stage to reach the truth and bring to justice any outlaws." The statement reads.
The statement said the new executive authority will immediately start work on security and stability across the entire country once it is approved so that all Libyans can begin the real work of building the state they have always aspired for.
