A Member of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF), Azzah Essid, is seeking support for a new movement called the “Burqa-Taqreb”, meaning Cyrenaica is getting closer. The movement demands the separation of the Cyrenaica region and for declaring it an independent state.

"The secession is the solution that everyone flees from," Essid said as she read a statement to mark the launching of the movement, adding that the profound disputes and divergences between Cyrenaica and Tripoli make it impossible to place them in one entity.

She called on the United States, Russia, and the European Union to stop the "flight forward" approach and support the voices calling for the Cyrenaica secession, saying this would put an end to a decade of absurdity.

The LPDF member described the Libyan state as a fragile entity, which was limited in Tripoli, calling on "the people of Barqa" to rally around the movement and reject the one Libya project that comes at the expense of the dignity of Barqa, as she put it.
