Maltese Foreign Minister Evarist Bartolo has underscored the importance for the international community to assist Libyans in finding a solution to their problems, stressing that a unified Libya is crucial to Malta.

Bartolo made his remarks during a meeting with the UN envoy to Libya, Jan Kubis, in the capital, Valletta.

The latter welcomed the recent visit of the Maltese and Italian foreign ministers with the European Commissioner to Libya and said that this is in the interest of the Libyan people at the economic and social levels.

The two parties discussed illegal immigration and stressed the need for Africa and Europe to come together for all.

"There is a need to create job opportunities in migrant origin countries and help Libya guard its borders in cooperation with other African countries from which it originates immigrants," Bartolo said.
