Malta’s Ministry of Interior announced that its Civil Protection Department had deployed four of its officers to Libya to help determine the causes of the recent fires that broke out in dozens of homes in the municipality of Al-Asabaa over the past few weeks.
The Maltese Ministry has said that this support is being provided through the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism, which has previously enabled Malta to deliver humanitarian assistance following emergencies in Greece, Libya, and Turkey.
Maltese Interior Minister Byron Camilleri reaffirmed that the Civil Protection Department is reiterating its vital role—not only in assisting and saving lives in Malta, but also in providing aid and expertise on behalf of the Maltese government to a country in need.
A series of mysterious fires have erupted in multiple homes in the Al-Asabaa town. Despite the formation of several investigative committees, the causes of these fires remain unknown, although their frequency has decreased since they started in February.
