The Mayor of Sirte, Mukhtar Al-Madani, has briefed the UN Envoy, Abdoulaye Bathily on the situation in the city and urged that the UN agencies take a closer interest in the city's needs.

Bathily met with the mayor on the sidelines of his visit to the coastal city to attend the 5 + 5 Joint Military Committee sessions.

Al-Madani presented a detailed written report showing the volume of support the government had provided for the municipality and the suspended projects managed by the Ministry of Planning.

For his part, Bathily called for paying compensation to companies and individuals, activating social services, and restoring peaceful relations among citizens, as he toured the city to see the damage caused by previous conflicts.

"Restoring peace, stability, and the legitimacy of institutions in Libya is extremely necessary to provide an opportunity for the reconstruction of cities that have been destroyed, such as the city of Sirte," Bathily wrote on Twitter.
