Judges in Italy have announced their intention to organize a strike on February 27 in protest against amendments proposed by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, after the Italian Public Prosecution Office began investigating Meloni in the case of the deportation of the commander of the judicial police prison in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, Osama Najim, known as "Al-Masry".
The Italian Prime Minister considered that filing this case against her is an attempt to target her using the judiciary. In light of the noticeable popular support for her strict approach, Meloni insists on moving forward, considering that the judiciary "seeks to protect itself from any democratic accountability".
She said in a television interview, "If I make a mistake, Italians can vote against me, but as for the judges, no one can hold them accountable."
The reform project, which was approved in the Chamber of Deputies and is awaiting approval by the Senate, requires a constitutional amendment and will be submitted to a popular referendum, as Meloni is counting on her growing popularity to overcome legal and political obstacles.
