The head of the Presidential Council, Mohammed Menfi, has called on the African Union to support holding the Libyan elections, the exit of all mercenaries and foreign forces from Libya, and to stop foreign interference in Libyan internal affairs, which further complicated the crisis.

This came during his speech before the Executive Council of the Union at its 35th ordinary session, which was held in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

“The positive conditions that followed the signing of the ceasefire agreement in Libya contributed to creating the appropriate environment for the unification of institutions and the enhancement of confidence among Libyans, which was evident in the election of a presidential council and a government of national unity, which paved the way for achieving comprehensive national reconciliation."

He noted to the establishment of a High Commission for National Reconciliation, in preparation for holding a comprehensive conference of the Libyan people, aimed at achieving comprehensive national reconciliation and achieving sustainable stability, calling on the African Union to provide support for the convening of the reconciliation conference in Libya.

He also called on the "concerned parties" to facilitate reaching a consensus, leading to free, fair and acceptable elections, avoiding the country from entering into new crisis challenges, preserving the political process, and holding elections with acceptable results for all.

Earlier, the Presidential Council announced that Morocco had agreed to withdraw in favor of Libya as a candidate for membership in the African Union Presidency.
