Libya and Tunisia agreed to boost joint trade activities and set up a work-plan to activate investments by facilitating travel from Libya to Tunisia and vice versa, in addition to improving financial dealings between the two countries' central banks.

The Tunisian Presidency said that President Kais Saied met with the Head of Libya's Presidential Council, Mohammed Menfi, his deputies Abdullah Al-Lafial and Mossa Al-Koni as well as Prime Minister Abdul-Hamid Dbeibah, in Tripoli and had reiterated the significance of the visit that reaffirms historic relations between Libya and Tunisia and the future cooperation.

In a joint press conference with Saied, Menfi hailed the visit as it coincided with the handover of power to the Government of National Unity in Libya, wishing this year would end with general elections.

The Tunisian President said his country was aiming at "reviving the Arab Maghreb region" and holding meetings among the countries, adding that there had been many contracts signed by the two sides but circumstances hindered implementation.

He also said he had discussed in Tripoli relations related to different fields, such as health and education sectors, including coordination in vaccines' process, as well as goods exchange via border crossings between Libya and Tunisia.

Saied's visit Wednesday to Tripoli is the first visit of a Tunisian President to Libya since 2012 and also Saied is the first President to visit Libya after the swearing in of a new government in the country.
