The Head of Libya’s Presidential Council, Mohammed Menfi, said that “the best and fastest way to hold elections is to appeal to the will of the Libyan people through a transparent referendum conducted by a credible and impartial body on contentious issues.”
Menfi made these remarks during an Iftar banquet in the capital, Tripoli, attended by several state officials, heads of regulatory and security agencies, military leaders, ministers, ambassadors to Libya, and other official and social figures.
"Our priorities include maintaining and strengthening stability as a fundamental pillar of the Libyan state by addressing any skirmishes or confrontations and working to unify security and military forces under civilian authority.” He said, adding: "Our priorities also include promoting development, combating corruption, protecting human rights, addressing irregular migration issues, and countering attempts to reinforce the division of institutions, particularly the judiciary.”
On foreign policy, Menfi stressed the importance of joint coordination with the United Nations and friendly countries, considering such cooperation a key pillar in implementing UN Security Council resolutions. He also mentioned the anticipated recommendations from the advisory committee established by the United Nations mission concerning the final approaches to disputed articles in the electoral laws. He expressed hope that these recommendations would not “replicate outdated and unrealistic ideas.”
Menfi stressed that Libya stands at a crossroads, calling on all parties to assume their responsibilities to guide the country toward safety and stability. He concluded by reaffirming that the support of Libya’s international partners during this sensitive period is essential for ensuring security and stability in the country.
