The Office of the Military Prosecutor said in a statement Wednesday that the Undersecretary of Health Ministry Mohammed Haythem fled Libya with a fake passport, pretending to be an injured fighter.

The statement said Haythem is wanted like other officials at the Military Medical Apparatus, who were summoned by the office, to provide statements and be interrogated over squandering the funds of the Apparatus, at which Haythem was the Director.

"If Haythem didn't flee, his legal situation would have been much better as he was wanted for statements not for pressing charges against him. He was allowed by the office to have one-time travel permit upon his request, thus he was granted that via Mitiga airport, yet he didn't fly in the specified time and remained in Libya for unknown reasons." The statement reads.

The Military Prosecutor's Office said it was notified later that Haythem fled via a border crossing outside Tripoli with a forged passport disguised as an injured fighter, adding that the legal responsibility of this incident goes to detention authorities of the Government of National Accord.

In August, the Military Prosecutor's Office issued a travel ban on Mohammed Haythem as well as other Military Medical Apparatus officials for accusations of squandering public funds.
