Military veterans and army officers in Derna have condemned Dignity Operation airstrikes on the city that left a number of civilians dead.

Colonel Yahya Al-Osta said in a statement on Sunday the airstrikes that killed civilians, including children, were carried out by armed militias and mercenaries who have no links to the army.

He added that war criminal Khalifa Haftar and his militia groups are a far cry from the military values and principles after they started targeting civilians and populated areas.

"We want police and army that protect civilians, not attacking them," the statement said.

Dignity Operation has intensified airstrikes on Derna shortly after the defeat of ISIS in the city.

On Monday, a man and his son were killed in a Dignity Operation airstrike, 3 days after a woman and her 2 children were killed in a similar airstrike on civilian areas.
