Misrata delegation visits Algeria for discussions over Libya’s predicament

The Algerian Minister of Maghreb, Arab League and African Union Affairs, Abdelkader Messahel, received Monday a delegation from Misrata city including the city’s mayor, Mohammed Ashtiwi, representatives of the city’s military and municipal councils and city-elected members of the Tobruk-based House of Representatives.

The visit is meant to strengthen the efforts exerted by Algeria to resolve the Libyan political stalemate, a statement by the Algerian Foreign Ministry was cited by the Algeria News Agency as saying.

“We discussed the possible political solutions for the crisis by adopting a comprehensive dialogue among Libyans and by conducting national reconciliation.” The statement reads, saying that Messahel renewed the Algeria stance that stands with political compromise and against foreign intervention in Libya’s crisis.

According to the statement, Misrata delegation hailed the Algerian efforts in pushing for a political solution within the framework of the Skhirat-signed political agreement.

Algeria, Tunisia and Egypt are conducting currently a joint political initiative via which they met with many Libyan political stakeholders, and according to reliable sources, s tripartite meeting for Khalifa Haftar, Fayez Al-Sirraj and Aqilah Saleh is expected to take place this week in Cairo, Egypt as part of the same initiative.
