Al-Sirraj was returning from the inauguration ceremony of the new HQ of the Criminal Investigation when his motorcade came under barrage

A motorcade carrying the Head of the UN-proposed government’s Presidential Council (PC), Fayez Al-Sirraj, has been targeted by heavy gunfire on the freeway near Guest Palaces in Tripoli this afternoon.

Al-Sirraj was not alone in the motorcade. The media office of the High Council of State (HCS) said, following the incident, that Abdelrahamn Al-Sweihli, the Head of the HCS and the Chief of the Presidential Guard, Najmi Al-Nakoa, were accompanying Al-Sirraj.

Two guards were injured in the gunfire barrage, the media office added.

The sources said that the motorcade came under fire in the freeway after the three UN-proposed government’s officials had returned from attending the inauguration of the Criminal Investigation’s new headquarters.

With the first breath taken by the PC officials, the head of security arrangements of the PC, Abdul-Rahman Al-Taweel, denied – speaking on Arraed TV channel – that the motorcade was the target and said the shooting coincided with the passage of the motorcade through an area where there was an exchange of fire.

The Spokesperson of the PC, Ashref Al-Thilti, also gave a similar statement to Al-Taweel’s, denying the incident.

However, about less than hour ago, the PC issued a statement confirming that its motorcade came under gunfire in the vicinity of the Guest Palaces in Tripoli when they were returning from the inauguration of Tripoli Criminal Investigation’s new HQ, pointing out that one car was hit and nobody was wounded.

Contradictions keep sweeping the PC to the extent that in one single hour three different statements were given on the same incident, which was reported by all media outlets and social media.
