The Al-Bayda-based National Committee for Human Rights in Libya (NCHRL) has denounced what it described as the atrocious crimes and violations committed by the outlaw armed factions of Zintan Military Council against civilians in Ragdaline city.

In a statement issued Sunday, the NCHRL said it is greatly concerned about the crimes committed by Zintani military council’s outlaw armed groups against Ragdaline civilians, such as kidnapping, random arrests and storming into houses of civilians, let alone stealing cars and physical torture at the illegal detentions that are set up by those factions.

According to the statement, the arrests and kidnaps reached 16, while assaults against female students reached 23 over the last period, besides slamming a curfew on the residents from 11:00pm to 7:00am and an act of beating the chief of the police station in Ragdaline along with other police officers.

The NCHRL also said that officials in the military council of Zintan, especially former defense minister Osama Al-Jawaily and the head of the military council Mukhtar Al-Akhdar take the full responsibility of all the violations committed in Ragdaline.

The statement also called on the investigations bureau at the Attorney General Office as well as the Ministry of the Interior in the UN-proposed government to conduct a probe into the incidents and bring the criminals to justice.

The militias of Zintan military council perpetrated a number of crimes and violations of human rights when it stormed into Kikla district, displacing its residents for more than a year over 2014 unrest.
