The National Front Party (NFP) has said that the real consensus needed by the country to sign a unity government has not been reached, confirming that it did not take part in the Serraj government signing ceremony.

In a statement, the party indicated that there are still fundamental issues need to be addressed, which led to the absence of key and influential parties from the signature ceremony.

“Our party had already clarified the points still to be addressed; most importantly, the need to link the mechanism of selecting the nominees for the presidential council with the principles of the national concord and not to insist on a list of candidates who were not even nominated by any sort of national consensus.” The statement reads.

The statement added that the rush to sign and announce the UN-brokered Presidential Council did not lead to overcome the conflicts that led to the crisis, but aggravated them, instead.

“Although the NFP has continued, to the last minute, to convince the conflicting parties to wait and give a chance to the outcomes of the meeting between the presidents of the General National Congress and the House of Representatives, no one took heed and thus the crisis is subject to escalate.” Elaborated the NFP.

“We urge the international community to assume its responsibility, in accordance with the framework set out in the political accord, by foiling intervention endeavors used by some international parties that seek to confiscate the will of the Libyans, or those who seek to impose their own agendas at the expense of the stability and security of the Libyan people.” Concluded the statement.
