The National Safety Authority announced raising the level of readiness and preparedness in anticipation of the weather conditions in the southeast region.
According to the Authority's Facebook page, this measure includes the border areas, Jabal Al-Uwaynat, Al-Sarah, Tibesti, Al-Kufra and its surroundings, and Tazerbo.
This step came in a letter addressed by the Authority's presidency to the sub-departments in the eastern region and the oases, the Director of the Civil Defense Department, the Director of the Emergency and Crisis Management Department, and the Head of the Support and Backup Center.
The letter recalled the weather warning issued by the National Center of Meteorology regarding the proliferation of thunderstorms in the aforementioned areas, which are accompanied by rain, especially in the border areas, which may cause some local valleys to flood, as these conditions continued on Monday and would be the same on Tuesday.
The National Center of Meteorology warned Monday about the southern region, especially the border areas with Chad, Sudan and Niger, where record amounts of rain fell on Al-Kufra, which has not witnessed such rainfall since 1952.
The rain led to floods in the city streets, and widespread problems, including uprooting trees, water entering some neighborhoods and homes, and a general power outage.
Sources confirmed that the Martyr Attia Al-Kaseh Hospital was out of service due to the entry of large amounts of rainwater on the ground floor, indicating that all patients were transferred from the hospital and distributed to other clinics and health centers.
