The Libyan National Security Council has warned of the growing dangers of illegal immigration and its negative impact on Libya’s national security and social fabric.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the council emphasized that this phenomenon has become a serious threat to the country’s political, economic, social, and security stability. It noted that neglecting the issue has led to the spread of crime, fraud, forgery, and the infiltration of terrorist groups, as well as an increase in drug trafficking.
The council’s statement warned that attempts by some countries to resettle illegal immigrants in Libya under the pretext of human rights issues posed a threat to Libya’s interests and security. It called on the relevant Libyan authorities to take urgent measures to protect national sovereignty, including strengthening border security and enforcing laws to combat illegal migration.
The statement stressed Libya’s complete rejection of the idea of settling immigrants on its territory, stressing the need for both local and international cooperation to address the issue effectively.
