New archaeological site

The Ministry of Interior of the Government of National Unity has announced the discovery of an archaeological site that dates back to the Roman era in the city of Sabratha.

The media office of the ministry explained that the Tourism and Antiquities Protection Agency of the western region was tipped off by a member of the public about the archaeological site that he discovered while surveying and bulldozing his plot of land near Sabratha Hospital.

It revealed that the incident was recorded and the Public Order Prosecution Office and Sabratha Antiquities Office. After examining the site by experts, it turned out to be an archaeological site dating back to the Roman era.

All due measures were taken including halting surveying and bulldozing work, the site was cordoned off, and members of the tourist police were assigning to protect it from tampering and theft, according to the ministry.
