There are no Italian troops in Jufra Airbase, Jufra Municipality has confirmed, refuting the alleged presence of Italian troops in the entire region.

Mayor Othman Hassona said the claims of Italian troops presence, first spread by a Zintani militia group, are baseless and completely false, saying such rumours are aimed at creating chaos in the region.

On Monday, members of the municipality paid a visit to the airbase and met with the military commanders there to refute the claims.

Abu Baker Siddiq Brigade, a Zintani militia group loyal to Dignity Operation, claimed in a statement that Italian troops were deployed in Jufra Airbase, vowing to fight what it called the new Italian occupation of Libya.

Jufra is a desert town in central Libya. It's airbase is under the control of the Third Force of the Libyan Army.
