The Chairman of National Oil Corporation (NOC) Mustafa Sonallah has rejected the latest decision of UN-installed Presidency Council (PC) to share powers and tasks of the country’s oil ministry between the NOC and PC.

The Presidency Council has exceeded its powers, Sonallah says, adding he has urged the PC to revoke the decision.

In a statement, Sonallah pointed out that the PC has no legal authority to change or limit the powers and functions of the NOC and that only the House of Representatives can do that.

“It’s our duty to manage the country’s oil resources until we have a possible settlement,” he said.

Early this week, the Presidency Council issued a controversial decision to assign most powers of the National Oil Corporation to it.
