The US Ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, tweeted on Wednesday "Libyans are tired of delay and want to see agreement on a constitutional basis leading to elections and a unified government."

The US embassy tweeted Norland's remarks following a meeting with the Head of the Presidential Council Head, Mohamed Menfi, in Tripoli.

According to Norland, the PC briefed him on the ongoing efforts to resolve the political impasse and promote reconciliation, equitable distribution of resources, and formation of a joint military unit.

In a related context, Norland disclosed that he spoke Wednesday in Tripoli with the Chief of the High Council of State, Khaled Al-Mishri, about the importance of reaching a consensus on a constitutional basis with the House of Representatives and moving swiftly to elections.

He said he shares the frustrations of Libyans over the lack of progress in moving toward elections as they approach the first anniversary of the postponement of elections.
