The Presidential Council Head, Mohamed Menfi, and his Deputy Abdullah Al-Lafi have stressed that a political solution to the Libyan crisis is urgently needed more than ever during their reception of the newly appointed UN envoy Abdoulaye Bathily.

Bathily, who took office in Tripoli on Friday, began his meetings with the Prime Minister of the Government of National unity on Sunday.

A statement by the PC media office said that Menfi and Al-Lafi welcomed the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and wished him success in his duties, praising the UN's efforts in supporting the political process.

For his part, Bathily conveyed to the PC, in the first meeting between the two parties, the greetings of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and praised its role in achieving stability and peace.

The UN envoy emphasized that the solution should be delivered by the Libyans themselves, expressing his keenness to assist in this regard.
