A fistfight escalating into guns held on guards’ heads at the headquarters of the UN-proposed government’s Presidential Council (PC) in Tripoli was reported by local media outlets on Sunday afternoon.

“While the Head of the PC, Fayez Al-Sirraj, was preparing for a joint presser with the Head of the UNSMIL and the UN envoy to Libya, Martin Kobler, the PC member Fathi Al-Mijibri - with the help of his bodyguards – tried to force his way into the room where Kobler and Al-Sirraj were having a closed meeting.” The media sources indicated.

According to the sources, Al-Mijibri used force along with his bodyguards in order to have a chance to talk to Kobler about his recent ordinances, which were repealed by Al-Sirraj, but he was prevented from entering the room, thus leading to his attempt to storm into it with his bodyguards’ assistance.

Some journalists, who were preparing to go live for the joint presser, confirmed that Al-Sirraj’s bodyguards told Al-Mijibri he would not be able to enter the meeting hall, as there had been a closed discussion in there, so his bodyguards stormed into it leading to a fistfight with Al-Sirraj’s bodyguards before both had held guns on one another.

Al-Mijibri was appointed as the Head of the PC for a few of days while Al-Sirraj was attending his daughter’s lavish wedding party in London. Between December 28-31, Al-Mijibri issued a number of ordinances to make the best advantage of his temporary post, appointing some figures close to him in key ministries and state sovereign posts before Al-Sirraj had rendered them all invalid as they were issued without consensus.
