Vice President of the Presidential Council (PC), Abdullah Al-Lafi, discussed the conditions inside the state-run rehabilitation centers with Minister of Justice Halima Ibrahim.

The meeting on Sunday focused on the delays in sentencing, which leads to detaining suspects without trial for long periods.

Al-Lafi stressed that prisoners should be treated humanely and have access to their core rights, including facilitating procedures for taking cases to court.

For her part, Minister Halima stressed the government's commitment to improving conditions in prisons, insisting that her office is working to expedite criminal sentencing procedures.

Amnesty International stated in its annual report on human rights in Libya 2022-2023 that its team monitored the continued arbitrary detention of thousands of people in Libya by armed groups and security forces.
