Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah engaged in discussions with representatives from the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) to explore avenues for enhancing its operations within the country. 

The meeting featured Stephanie Kouri, Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General/ Acting Head of UNSMIL, as well as Aeneas Chuma, Acting Deputy Special Representative, UN Resident Coordinator, and Humanitarian Coordinator in Libya. 

The discussions focused on fortifying collaboration regarding municipal elections, with Dbeibah underscoring the significance of these elections as a crucial step toward the anticipated national polls.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister extended a welcome to Chuma as the new Humanitarian Coordinator in Libya, expressing his gratitude for the essential role that the United Nations fulfils in supporting the country.

On Thursday, the UN Security Council passed a resolution to extend UNSMIL’s mandate until January 31, 2025, shortly before the current mandate was set to expire on October 31.
