Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah held talks in Tripoli with Congolese President Denis Sassou Nguesso, chair of the African Union's High-Level Committee on Libya, to advance national reconciliation efforts in the country.
According to an official statement, the meeting focused on the African Union's role in fostering reconciliation and emphasized the importance of uniting regional and international efforts to support Libya during this critical period.
Dbeibah reiterated that elections remain the only solution to Libya’s political crisis, asserting that the core disagreements lie within the political leadership rather than among the Libyan people.
The discussions also touched on bilateral relations between Libya and Congo, with both leaders exploring ways to enhance cooperation for mutual benefit.
President Sassou Nguesso proposed a national reconciliation charter for Libya and expressed his intention to encourage Libyan stakeholders to endorse and adopt the initiative.
The Congolese president arrived in Tripoli earlier on Monday, where he was received by Presidential Council leader, Mohamed Menfi, at Mitiga Airport.
