Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibeh has ordered the military prosecutor to launch an urgent investigation into the killing of Brigadier General Ali Ramadan Al-Rayani.
Al-Rayani was shot dead early Sunday after an armed group attacked his home in Khallet Al-Furjan, south of Tripoli, as he returned from dawn prayers.
According to officials, the brigadier general exchanged fire with the attackers, killing two and fatally injuring a third before succumbing to a gunshot wound to the chest.
In a statement posted on social media, Dbeibeh mourned Al-Rayani’s death, describing him as a martyr who "defended the sanctity of his home and family."
He pledged a full investigation to determine the circumstances of the attack and identify those responsible.
