‎The Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah confirmed that the Italian government will bear the full costs of constructing the strategic Emssaed-Ras Ajdair road, stressing the need to look into the obstacles that may face the implementation of the project with the aim of launching it as soon as possible.

Dbeibah held a meeting Sunday in his office in Tripoli with the Implementation and Management Authority of the Emssaed-Ras Ajdair road, to follow up on the activation of the agreement to implement the road, which is 1,700 kilometers long, and was signed with Italy in 2008.

Hakomitna media platform said on its Facebook page that Dbeibah was briefed during the meeting on the general position of the project and the results reached by the joint committees from the Libyan and Italian sides regarding the progress made in the contracting procedures with Italian companies specialized in implementation.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Transportation Mohammed Al-Shahoubi, and the head of the follow-up committee for the resumption of the friendship agreement between Libya and Italy, Minister of State for Communication and Political Affairs Walid Al-Lafi.

In 2008, Libya signed a friendship and partnership agreement with Italy that includes the maintenance of the coastal road from western to eastern Libya in addition to Italy's commitment to complete housing projects, provide scholarships to Libyan students in Italian universities, and encouraging Italian companies to enter the Libyan market.

The Implementation and Management Authority of the Emssaed-Ras Ajdair road announced on its Facebook page that Italy had pledged to provide financial coverage for the implementation of the highway road project that connects eastern and western Libya at a value of 5 billion dollars.
