Dbeibah

Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibeh has launched a scathing attack on the Speaker of the House of Representatives (HOR), Aguila Saleh, accusing him of inciting war and attempting to rehabilitate his political image at the expense of those killed in the country’s years-long conflict.

In a post shared on Facebook on Monday, Dbeibeh described Saleh as a “warmonger” who supported the offensive on Tripoli by forces loyal to Khalifa Haftar between 2019 and 2020 — an operation that left over 3,000 dead and caused widespread destruction in the capital.

“Aguila Saleh, who legitimised the bombing and destruction of Tripoli for more than a year, now speaks of peace with a shameless face,” Dbeibeh wrote.

He went on to accuse the parliamentary speaker of attempting to “polish his political history” while failing to address the disappearance of several members of the House of Representatives.

“Before boasting about peace in Tripoli, look to your parliament — exhausted, without quorum or true legitimacy,” Dbeibeh added.

The remarks followed criticism by Saleh earlier the same day during a parliamentary session in Benghazi. Saleh blamed the Government of National Unity (GNU) for recent violence in Tripoli and urged MPs to swiftly appoint a new prime minister to prevent a political vacuum in western Libya.
