Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah has highlighted the importance of ongoing military cooperation with the United States to enhance the capabilities of Libya’s armed forces and support efforts to maintain national security and stability.
Dbeibah’s remarks came during a meeting on Wednesday with a delegation from the US Africa Command (AFRICOM) at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tripoli. The delegation was led by Lieutenant General John Brennan, Brigadier General Krafory, and US Chargé d'Affaires Jeremy Berndt.
According to a statement from the government’s platform "Hakomitna," the talks focused on expanding military cooperation, including training programmes and improving the efficiency of Libyan forces. The discussions also addressed the security situation in Africa, regional challenges related to terrorism and organized crime, and strategies for joint coordination to tackle emerging threats.
The US delegation commended the current level of collaboration and reaffirmed Washington's commitment to supporting Libya’s security sector development and enhancing bilateral coordination on security matters.
The meeting is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security and military ties between the two nations, contributing to broader goals of regional stability and combating shared threats, according to Hakomitna.
Among those present from the Libyan side were Chief of Staff General Mohamed al-Haddad, Deputy Minister of Defence Abdelsalam al-Zoubi, and Prime Minister’s Advisor Ibrahim Dbeibah.
Before the meeting in Tripoli, General Brennan held talks with senior military officials from the Government of National Unity. On Tuesday, the US delegation visited Benghazi, where they met with Khalifa Haftar and his son Saddam Haftar.
