The Deputy Heads of the Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi and Mossa Al-Koni, hailed the United Nations' (UN) support for the political track through its support mission in Libya (UNSMIL), during their meeting with the Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Rosemary DiCarlo, in the presence of the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Acting Head of Mission, Stephanie Koury, at the headquarters of the Presidential Council in Tripoli on Sunday.
Al-Koni and Al-Lafi discussed with DiCarlo the latest political developments in Libya, ways to push the political process forward, and reaching consensual solutions among all Libyan parties through a comprehensive national dialogue, aiming to attain a political settlement that ends the crisis.
They also discussed the files of local governance, financial expenditure management, and national reconciliation, according to the media office of the Presidential Council, which added that DiCarlo had expressed during the meeting her support for the reconciliation and transitional justice track led by the Presidential Council, stressing the need to continue these efforts, in conjunction with working on the elections track.
Al-Koni and Al-Lafi stressed "the importance of having a regional consensus that enhances local consensus in Libya," praising the role of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya in supporting the political track to find a peaceful solution to the political crisis in Libya.
Prior to her meeting with Al-Koni and Al-Lafi, the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations met with both the Head of the Presidential Council, Mohammed Menfi, and the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, and discussed developments in Libya as well as ways to advance the political process that is facilitated by the UN.
