The Head of Presidential Council, Muhammed Menfi, said Saturday he would urge candidates running for the planned elections in December not to take part unless there was consensus on the vote's legal framework.

Speaking to Reuters in New York, Menfi stressed that his objective is to ensure the national presidential and parliamentary elections go ahead as planned on Dec. 24.

Reuters quoted Menfi as saying that not having a proper vision towards this election, (not having) this kind of consensus, is by itself a risk.

Last October, the conflicting parties in Libya reached a ceasefire agreement that led to a deal on the December elections, but there are fears that the voting law battle could undermine the already fragile peace process.
