Clashes have reignited between armed groups in various areas of Zawiya, 42 km west of the capital Tripoli, resulting in casualties.
On Thursday evening, the Ruknia area saw intense fighting between two factions, "Al-Kabawat," affiliated with the 103rd Battalion, and another group led by Riyad Belhaj.
According to local sources, the clashes were triggered by an attack on Abdul Rahman Belhaj, the brother of Riyad Belhaj, who is currently in critical condition and receiving treatment at a local hospital.
Efforts for de-escalation and a ceasefire are ongoing amid heightened security tensions and chaos in the city.
Zawiya frequently experiences such conflicts between armed groups in various neighbourhoods. The most recent incident on May 18 resulted in 22 injuries and one fatality, according to the Emergency and Ambulance Service.
