THS Haber, a Turkish media outlet, claimed that during the meeting between Saddam Haftar and Turkish officials on his official visit to the Turkish capital, Ankara on April 04, Saddam signed an agreement that included launching talks to purchase Turkish weapons and train members of Haftar’s forces.

According to THS Haber, the agreement includes initiating talks to acquire Turkish military equipment, particularly in the fields of weaponry, UAVs, and training on their use. It also reported that an agreement was reached regarding the development of certain needs of Haftar’s ground forces in military infrastructure, in addition to conducting joint training between the Libyan and Turkish naval forces along the eastern Libyan coast.

THS Haber revealed that both sides agreed to train 1,500 members of Haftar’s forces this year in areas such as defense, maintenance, mine clearance, and technical support, through joint groups between Libya and Turkey. They also plan to implement a variety of training programs in the coming years, with more than 30 programs in different military fields.

It indicated that an official signing ceremony is expected to take place soon in Benghazi, in the presence of the Chief of Staff of the Turkish Land Forces, Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu. It also noted that both parties agreed that Turkey would assist in accelerating the unification of the Libyan military institution through joint coordination between the eastern and western regions.
