Sources have confirmed that Saddam Haftar, son of Khalifa Haftar, has ordered the shutdown of the Sharara oil field, operated by Spain's Repsol.
According to Libya Al Ahrar TV, this action came after Saddam was informed of an arrest warrant against him while returning to Libya from Italy.
Italian authorities reportedly notified Saddam of an arrest warrant and notice issued by Spanish authorities linked to his involvement in smuggling a shipment of weapons intercepted by Spanish police several months ago.
Efforts by Western and local entities have reportedly begun to pressure Spain to nullify the arrest warrant against Haftar's son, aiming to resume operations at the Sharara oil field, one of Libya's most significant fields with a production capacity exceeding 350,000 barrels per day.
A year ago, Spanish police seized military equipment and weapons destined for the UAE and then to eastern Libya, as reported by Cronica Global Español, which led to Saddam Haftar's push to close the Sharara oil field.
