The former UN envoy to Libya, Ghassan Salame, said Libya's biggest problem is that it hasn't seen presidential elections before as Muammar Gaddafi ended a Monarch's rule and revolutionary fighters ended Gaddafi's reign, after which chaos has been sweping through the country for 10 years, thus leaving Libyans afraid that elections could lead to the birth of a new individual rule rather than democracy.
Speaking to Al-Akhbar - Lebanese newspaper - Salame said the political process must be in the presence of the UN as a party that ensures the process without economic or financial interests in Libya, saying the absence of the UN could lead to national and constant international conflicts to seize power.
Salame said there is no true will of foreign countries to support a solution in Libya, saying the meetings he called for were ignored by foreign officials, and reiterated that the solution in Libya must go in three overlapping tracks: economy - oil production - military (5+5 JMC) and political: which needs lots of support to be successful.
