The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aqilah Saleh, and President of the High Council of State Khaled Al-Mishri, have agreed to meet in Geneva at the invitation of the UN Special Adviser on Libya Stephani Williams.
Williams disclosed via a tweet on Thursday her pleasure for these developments, confirming that Aqilah and Al-Mishri accepted her invitation to meet at the UN HQ in Geneva between 28-29 June to discuss the draft constitutional framework for elections.
The UN Rep. lauded the heads of the two chambers for their ' commitment to seek consensus on the remaining issues following last week’s HoR/HCS Joint Committee meeting in Cairo.
A UN plan to bring the two heads of chambers together in Cairo last Saturday had reportedly failed after a disagreement on the agenda.
Saleh left Cairo on Friday for Qubba town in eastern Libya after Al-Mishri rejected to meet him, according to identical sources.
Last Monday, Williams released a statement following the end of the third and final round of negotiations between the Joint Committee, confirming that despite the "great deal of consensus" on some issues, arguments over the management of the transitional period leading to elections remained unsolved.
