The Security Directorates Support Agency announced it had thwarted an assassination attempt against its commander, Colonel Ali Al-Jabri, on Wednesday night in the Abu Salim area, which had witnessed protests following the unrest on Monday and Tuesday.
In a statement on Thursday, the agency said that Al-Jabri had gone to the area to meet with protesters and listen to their demands.
It added, “While Al-Jabari was speaking with the demonstrators, some infiltrating criminals exploited the chaos and the lack of visibility caused by smoke from burning tires to attempt an assassination on Colonel Al-Jabri.” The agency noted that an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
It also posted a video on its Facebook page showing bullet marks on the vehicle Al-Jabri was traveling in. It’s worth noting that the Security Directorates Support Agency was officially tasked by the Ministry of Interior with securing Abu Salim municipality following the recent clashes in the area.
