The Head of the Audit Bureau, Khaled Shakshak, in his capacity as President of the African Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI), signed an agreement in Rabat with President of the Court of Accounts of the Kingdom of Morocco and Secretary-General of the organization Zineb El Adaoui, to transfer the organization’s permanent headquarters.
The Audit Bureau explained that this step implements the resolution of the organization’s General Assembly, issued during its meeting in Tripoli last December, regarding the transfer of the General Secretariat’s headquarters from Cameroon to Morocco. The aim is to enhance the organization’s effectiveness and improve coordination among its members.
On the sidelines of the signing ceremony, the two parties held a series of technical meetings discussing the procedures required to complete the relocation, in addition to reviewing a draft cooperation agreement in the fields of financial auditing and accounting, which is expected to be approved after examination by the relevant technical committees on both sides.
The two parties agreed on several practical steps, most notably preparations for the upcoming Executive Council meeting of the organization, scheduled to be held in Morocco in July, as well as establishing a joint mechanism for communication and coordination with international donor agencies to support institutional and organizational capacity-building efforts of supreme audit institutions in member states.
Shakshak emphasized the significance of the event, considering it a qualitative leap in AFROSAI’s trajectory, which will enhance its ability to fulfill its oversight and developmental roles at both regional and international levels.
