The Head of the Audit Bureau, Khalid Shakshak, discussed with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Libya, Hanna Tetteh, ways to develop tools and mechanisms for monitoring public spending in a manner that contributes to improving the management of financial resources and enhancing transparency and financial governance.
This came during a meeting held on Sunday at the Audit Bureau’s headquarters in Tripoli, where they addressed the draft general budget for the year 2024 and the projections for the 2025 budget, reaffirming the importance of consolidating the principles of accountability in public affairs management.
According to what was published by the Audit Bureau, Shakshak reviewed the Bureau’s role in overseeing the financial performance of public entities and praised the partnership with the UN mission in supporting efforts to develop the financial auditing system in line with international standards.
Shakshak also stressed the importance of strengthening the Bureau’s independence to ensure its professional and impartial performance away from any external influences.
Meanwhile, Tetteh expressed her appreciation for the Bureau’s efforts and reaffirmed the mission’s full support for its endeavors to combat corruption and promote transparency.
