The mayor of Tobruk Al-Naji Mazik dropped a bombshell for media when he said that the so-called authorities of eastern Libya redirected a flight from Tobruk airport to Benghazi's Benina airport in order to arrest the CEO of the General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL).

The mayor of Tobruk revealed on Thursday on a pro-Dignity Operation TV channel that Khalifa Haftar-led authorities in Benghazi wanted to arrest and detain Abdelmajid Hamza, the CEO of the GECOL of the Presidential Council, from the flight that they directed from Tobruk to Benina airport, but to their unimaginable surprise, the man was not onboard.

The plane arrived at Tobruk airport carrying passengers from Tripoli-based Mitiga airport.

"What they did is just immoral and unacceptable and it is part of conspiracies against Tobruk city." The mayor remarked.

He also added that the reason why the eastern authorities were so eager to get hold of the CEO of the GECOL is that he agreed with the Presidential Council in Tripoli to build a gas power plant in Tobruk worth $500.000.000.

This incident brings no novel matters as the east-based Interim Government's Prime Minister, Abdullah Al-Thanni, has issued a statement earlier this year ordering interior and intelligence apparatuses to arrest the members of the Presidential Council and its government's ministers in the areas under the eastern government’s grip.

“All land, sea, and air routes will be targeting those usurpers.” Al-Thanni said back then.

Last month, top commander of Dignity Operation ordered his militia groups to ban Presidential Council officials from working in the areas under his control.

Of course the attempt to detain the GECOL's CEO came after he had inked a contract with the Greek firm, METKA to implement the project of Tobruk gas power plant, which could help reduce the power outages in the country as it would produce 740 megawatts.
