The Head of the Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sirraj has held, in his speech at the African-Russian summit in Sochi, the countries supporting Khalifa Haftar in his war on Tripoli accountable for killing Libyans and destroying their houses and infrastructure, which amount to war crimes.

Al-Sirraj called on the countries attending the summit to condemn the aggression on Tripoli led by Haftar and asked the African Union to have a more active role in resolving the Libyan crisis, which he said could have terrible ramifications for all African nations.

"We have sacrificed as government regular forces over 800 martyrs and hundreds of injuries in the war on terrorism and in terminating ISIS, so the claims of the attacking forces of Haftar that they are fighting terrorism in their war on Tripoli is absurd." Al-Sirraj remarked.

He also lashed out at the negative foreign interventions in Libya that led to political and institutional division in the country and that also encouraged military aggression on Tripoli with funding from foreign countries in violation of Security Council resolutions.

"We call for condemning the attack on Tripoli and the leaderships behind it for their violations that amount to war crimes. There can be no equalization between the attackers and the defenders in this war and our forces are determined to defeat the attacking forces." Al-Sirraj indicated.

He reminded the attendees of his June initiative that called for a national conference in Libya and then elections.
