On the sidelines of the Global Disability Summit in Berlin, the Minister of Social Affairs in the Government of National Unity, Wafaa Al-Kilani, held a series of meetings with Arab and European counterparts.
Al-Kilani discussed avenues for cooperation in social affairs and the empowerment of persons with disabilities with her counterparts from Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Qatar, Italy, and Germany. She met with Germany’s Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Svenja Schulze, expressing gratitude to the German government for its warm hospitality and outstanding organization of the summit. She praised the wide participation of countries working to promote the rights of persons with disabilities.
The Libyan minister emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between Libya and Germany in the fields of social development and support for persons with disabilities. She affirmed Libya’s commitment to furthering such partnerships to achieve sustainable development for this important segment of society.
The meeting also addressed ways to develop cooperation in rehabilitation and social care. Al-Kilani stressed the need to benefit from Germany’s experience in these fields to improve the quality of services provided in Libya.
She also met with Tunisia’s Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Issam al-Ahmar, and they agreed to begin implementing the cooperation agreement previously signed between the two countries in the field of social affairs. This includes developing joint programs to support persons with disabilities and enhancing rehabilitation and care mechanisms.
In another meeting with Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, Head of the Social Affairs Sector at the Arab League, Al-Kilani discussed Arab coordination in the field of disabled people's rights.
She held discussions with Qatar’s Minister of Social Development and Family, Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi, Egypt’s Minister of Social Solidarity, Maya Morsi, and Algeria’s Minister of Mujahideen and Rights Holders, Laïd Rebika. These meetings focused on strengthening Arab cooperation in caring for persons with disabilities.
On the European front, Al-Kilani met with Italy’s Minister for Disabilities, Alessandra Locatelli, to discuss bilateral cooperation, especially in areas of rehabilitation, reintegration, and pioneering experiences in community care.
