The Head of the Presidential Council, Mohammed Menfi, called for international cooperation to address the root causes of illegal immigration, by providing a development environment in the countries of origin, noting that Libya, as a transit country, is fully aware of the challenges of this phenomenon and seeks to develop sustainable solutions for it.
Menfi said, in his speech at the "the Summit of the Future" held at the United Nations headquarters in New York City on Monday, that this summit was an exceptional opportunity to consider the challenges facing the world and find innovative and comprehensive solutions to them.
"This summit places a great responsibility on us to change our methods of dealing with existing challenges. The technological progress, especially in the digital field, provides new tools to innovate effective and sustainable solutions, and they are not just modern technologies, but the result of strategic thinking that looks to the future and works to achieve a balance between innovation and social responsibility," he noted, calling for the realization that these tools are not related to mere artificial intelligence, but to developing strategies capable of supporting and achieving positive transformation in society.
Menfi also pointed out that digital gaps and economic disparities still hinder the progress of countries, and he urged to reduce these gaps and ensure equal opportunities for all, stressing Libya's commitment to its regional and international role in supporting the principles that the summit seeks to achieve, as well as enhancing dialogue and cooperation to confront common challenges such as climate change, migration and terrorism.
"In addition to working with international partners to find innovative and sustainable solutions by exploiting strategic expertise and employing modern technologies to confront these challenges." He added, saying this summit aims to build a future that guarantees equal opportunities for all, and they must work together and overcome regional differences.
"We realize that cooperation among countries is not an option but an imperative necessity to ensure the achievement of sustainable financial development and social justice, and we must focus on intergenerational responsibility. We emphasize the importance of adhering to the principles of this summit that call for adopting innovation, sustainability and justice in all aspects of our lives. By working together, we can overcome the challenges ahead, and create a world in which everyone has the opportunity to prosper and live in dignity and peace." He added.
