Tajoura mayor, Hussein Ben Atiya, rejected the calls of the member of the High Council of Reconciliation, Al-Taher Al-Badawi, regarding organizing public demonstrations calling for early presidential and parliamentary elections, saying such issues are not raised by urging people to demonstrate and then cause pandemonium in the name of freedom of speech.

“Such acts could now be used by some to carry out violent crimes and vandalism especially that most of the revolutionaries are now busy fighting IS in Sirte.” Ben Atiya indicted.

“Tripoli is safe and secure and calling people to go on street to demonstrate nowadays would be similar to committing suicide. There is a desire for early elections but there is no desire for haphazard demonstrations, so we reject this urge that is made by Ibrahim Jodran’s friends.” He added.

Al-Taher Al-Badawi called on Libyans to take to the streets and protest in demand of early presidential and parliamentary elections claiming it is the only way out of Libya’s crisis and end the conflict of legitimacy that is divided among three bodies.

The High Council of Reconciliation proposed an initiative last Monday in Tunisia meetings aiming at resolving Libya’s crisis, suggesting merging the two governments in the east and west (Salvation and Al-Thanni governments) in one body. The new government should operate under the control of the Presidential Council after being approved by the Tobruk-based House of Representatives.

In a video posted on his Facebook page, the member of The High Council of Reconciliation, Al-Badawi, was seen with the UN envoy to Libya, Martin Kobler, who is seen hailing the initiative and saying it was his and Leon's idea from the start, but he has little hope that the two governments of Al-Ghweil and Al-Thanni would now sit together after they repeatedly refused it, he added.

"I support the initiative as long as it does no change to the political agreement.", adding that it is unlikely the governments will agree now when it could have happened a year ago." Kobler added.
