Audit

Ahmed Aoun assumed his duties as the new Head of the Audit Bureau on Tuesday morning, following a decision issued by the rival for the presidency of the High Council of State, Mohammed Takala.

On April 8, the House of Representatives reaffirmed the continued appointment of Khaled Shakshak as the head of the bureau and the revocation of the decision appointing Atiyallah Al-Saeiti as his deputy. The House stated that the decision to appoint Al-Saeiti had been nullified as if it had never been issued.

On December 25, 2024, Khaled Al-Mishri had informed Khaled Shakshak to remain in his post until an agreement with the House of Representatives was reached.

The sovereign positions for which the High Council of State is responsible for nominating candidates include five roles: Head of the Audit Bureau, Head of the Elections Commission, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank, and the two deputies of the Administrative Control Authority and the Anti-Corruption Authority.

The House of Representatives and the High Council of State had agreed in Bouznika, Morocco in 2020 to form a (13+13) committee to undertake procedural steps regarding the occupants of sovereign positions.
