The head of the High Council of State (HCS) Mohamed Takala, has called on the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) to support his proposal for early elections to appoint a new leadership for the council.
In a letter addressed to UN Envoy Hanna Tetteh, Takala outlined his initiative, which he said had been coordinated with and backed by a significant number of council members.
He described the proposed early elections as a “vital step” towards fostering national consensus and strengthening the council’s role in the political process.
Takala’s proposal also includes the formation of a committee representing different factions within the council. The committee would be tasked with agreeing on key procedural points and establishing a clear mechanism for holding the elections.
The HCS president expressed hope that UNSMIL would play a constructive role in facilitating the plan, which he said could contribute positively to political stability and development in Libya.
Takala named four council members—Mohamed Abusenina, Huda Al-Banani, Hassan Al-Habib, and Al-Taher Al-Ghouri—as participants in the proposed dialogue committee.
