Mohammed Takala, who is competing for the position of Head of the High Council of State (HCS) with his rival, Khalid Al-Mishri, has begun a two-day visit to Mauritania, which the official authorities in Nouakchott said "aims to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries."
The official website of the Mauritanian Parliament published, on Wednesday, footage of the reception of Takala by the President of the Mauritanian National Assembly (Parliament) Mohamed Ould Meguett on Tuesday, saying they discussed bilateral relations, especially in the parliamentary field, and the need to strengthen the bodies of the Maghreb Union as an important gain for the peoples and countries of the Maghreb region, in addition to issues of common interest.
Mohamed Ould Meguett held an extended meeting with the delegation of the HCS in the presence of a number of representatives and some members of the legislative institution, after which he stated that the Mauritanian-Libyan relations, with the important gains they have achieved, remain a fundamental building block and a tributary to the joint Maghreb action aimed at facing challenges, calling on the Maghreb countries to coordinate jointly and work intensively to overcome the obstacles and difficulties facing the progress of the Maghreb Union.
The HCS has been divided between Takala and Al-Mishri for seven months since the first election sessions were held amid conflicting judicial rulings in favor of the rivals for the presidency.
