Mohammed Takala, the President of the High Council of State (HCS), reaffirmed his support on Tuesday for the statements made by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and the Presidential Council (PC) regarding the Central Bank of Libya (CBL).
He called for forming a committee under the auspices of the Arab League to review contentious issues and unresolved matters within the political process.
"The High Council of State welcomes the UNSMIL's statement expressing its intention to hold an emergency meeting on the Central Bank to ensure its independence and continuity in fulfilling its duties through the reconstitution of its board by the provisions of the Libyan Political Agreement signed in Skhirat," Takala stated.
He welcomed the statement issued by the PC President on Tuesday, which called for consultations between the House of Representatives and the HCS to agree on the selection and formation of a new board and governor for the Central Bank.
The HCS head highlighted that the deadlines set by the PC for holding national elections are feasible, provided that the necessary legislation, arrangements, and procedures are completed.
Takala urged building on the latest agreements reached between the heads of the three councils (HoR, PC, and HCS) during their meeting on March 10th and moving forward with the formation of the committee agreed upon under the sponsorship of the Arab League.
He also emphasized that the committee should be assigned the responsibility of examining the controversial issues and outstanding concerns in order to build upon the accomplishments of the Libyan Political Agreement. The step is to guarantee the prompt implementation of electoral laws that are mutually agreed upon, equitable, and actionable, according to Takala's statement.
